Random Thoughts From An Essay-Deprived Mind

After months of not eating snacks between meals, I had a few pieces of potato chips today. They were really good, mind you. And I used to enjoy them a whole lot. However, there is a queesy feeling in my stomach now. Ugh.

My boyfriend is adorable. He pinky swears. I'm sure he will not appreciate me telling you that he does. But I really thought it was adorable when he promised to call me yesterday.

I finally found a dress to wear to my cousin's wedding next August. I know the wedding isn't til August, but seriously trying to find a formal dress was bringing me stress. So anyway, I scored a dress worth five dollars. Yes! A brand new tea length sage green bridesmaid dress for five dollars...in a store. Hah. I am an awesome shopper.

One of my good friends is also getting married next year, in May actually. And I need to get a dress for her wedding, too. Obviously, I am not a dress person that I don't own any dresses. Luckily, she is going the traditional Mexican way, so she won't have any bridesmaids. So I don't have to get a really formal dress, unless I want to. Hahaha. Oh, and she asked me to tag along when she picked out her dress. That was a lot of fun. Minus the whole scene where teh sales associates all though I spoke fluently in Spanish. Haha.

I have also finished Christmas shopping for my little godson - my best friend's baby boy. All I have to do is ship it off to the Philippines. I have bought gifts for my former co-workers at SAC. And I'm halfway done getting stuff for the boyfriend. I have no idea what else to get for him, nor my family. How in the world do I top the gifts I got them last year without going over my budget.

I have so many things I'm saving up for. Where can I get some cash? Drats! I still have to order my contact lenses. I have to ship stuff overseas. I have a whole Christmas list I need to get. Waaaah.

It's the final hurrah this week for the fall semester. Woah! Last week of regular classes before finals.

I have to write an essay TODAY because I need to be studying for a final for Thursday - the same day the essay is due. I need to pull a hundred in both those classes to get the grade I want.

By the way, a lot of stuff happened this semester:
* I had to get used to not having a "reward system" when I studied for an exam
* No late night phone calls - only early weekend ones
* Higher phone bill
* Dean's List Spring 2009
* Induction into Psi Chi - the International Honor's Society in Psychology
* Establishment of the Texas State International Students Association
* Was elected to become Interim President for next semester as our current President graduates
* Started moderating for Twitter's @iheartquotes
* First time that I worked more that 10 hours a week while studying 12 credits

And a bunch of other stuff I probably cannot remember. Life has been good.

I Need Money

I was happily looking at probable Christmas gifts, and realized that I cannot purchase anything that expensive.

I have so many things I have to spend money on next year.

1. Class ring (approx. $700)
2. Graduation invitations, graduation memorabilia ($200)
3. Graduation cap & gown (???)
4. Alumni Association ($50)
5. Sociology Honors Society ($60)
6. Gown 1 - May wedding ($100)
7. Wedding/Engagement gift (???)
8. Gown 2 - August wedding ($100)
9. Shoes - hopefully for both weddings ($30)
10. Ticket - roundtrip to Portland, OR ($500)
11. OPT stuff ($340)

Approximate spending within 8-month span = $2, 280

11. NBA All Star Weekend in Dallas ($ ???)

They're Shutting Down

I have about less than an hour before I leave work and head to our bi-monthly ISA meeting. After the disappointing turn-out (or lack thereof) the last time, I don't feel confident about this whole ISA shindig becoming successful. I tried to involve the International Office into inviting international students to join our meeting, but my invitation was totally ignored. I sent it yesterday at 9am. I know it was a bit late, but still, they could have easily forwarded the message during the remainder of the day.

Anyway, so much for that. If it goes well, it goes well. I shouldn't be too concerned and stress about it. Because nobody else seems to be stressing out.

My supervisor is on leave, and I have nothing else to do but wait for my coworker to arrive for her shift. I was done with my to-do box in the first hour. I forgot to pack lunch, and didn't have time to eat breakfast. So I was starving by noon, and ended up buying lunch from the on-campus Pizza Hut. I usually get breadsticks, but they only had Cheese Sticks. Don't get me wrong, I love cheese sticks, but this was like cheese overkill. I was bloated by the second piece (there were 5). So that was that.

Our department chairperson was at a meeting, so I decided to hurriedly put away files in his office while he was gone. He can be intimidating at times. And besides, I didn't want to invade his privacy while he was in his office. Y'know, sometimes one has to realize why people have their own private offices - for privacy purposes. He was scheduled to be back by noon. So there I was, furiously filing stuff away. By 11:45, as soon as I step out of his office through the side door adjacent to our office, I hear his front door swing open to signal his arrival. Whew! Impeccable timing, Laureen. Hah!

Last night, Papa had asked me for our old addresses. I had to dig up my old journals to find out when we lived in those places, as well. Ahhh, the memories. I wanted to read every single entry. But of course, most of those entries involved me crying and fawning over my ex. I still want to read them, though, so I can laugh at myself. Haha. And I miss my old blog, too. My violetpearl blog. Which reminds me...Geocities is shutting down. I need to save my webpages from there. I had completely forgotten about my Geocities website, until  I received the memo about it shutting down. I checked my site, and all the memories came rushing in. Okay, that was mild exagerration, my website isn't that grand. Hahaha. So yeah, I have to save my webpages.

Well, I guess that's about it for today. I thought I'd swing by, and leave a few, er, paragraphs. Haha.

Texting in Rage

I asked Kuya to head straight to San Marcos after he picks mama up. Since I was only taking an exam today, I figured it wouldn't take me an hour to be done with. Sure enough, I was done in 40 minutes! Let's do the math, shall we. Mama leaves work at 5:30, it takes about 30 minutes to get to San Marcos from New Braunfels. If Kuya had listened to the instructions I gave him, then they would be here by now. Instead, Kuya decides to drive home. I'm so mad. I had plans to study! I have an exam tomorrow. My textbook is at home. I now have to wait 30 minutes or so before they get here. My instructions were provided in vain. And I am truly, immensely pissed.

From Word

Hello!

So I'm procrastinating again. I really need to study. But I remembered this feature on Word that allows me to blog from the software, so here I am.

I'm supposed to be studying about adolescents, and I'm barely through the first chapter that talks about puberty and I'm bored. I guess it's my fault too, because I decided to halt reading and watch the Backstreet Boys' performance on Kimmel. Yes, Jimmy Kimmel. I know that was last night, but I don't watch Jimmy Kimmel (because I don't like him), so I recorded his show last night because BSB was gonna be on. It was great coz I could fast-forward.

Oh, BSB…I swear that I MUST see the Backstreet Boys in concert before my time on earth expires. Seriously.

What else? I need to get a start on my essays for my classes. And I need to work on extra credit options, too. AND I need to study 7 chapters for my exams on Monday and Tuesday. Deym!

Later, skaters. TTFN (",)

Ramblemadness

I really miss my boyfriend.

My sleeping habits have just skyrocketed to unacceptable. I can't seem to fall asleep earlier than 2 am, which is unhealthy and not to mention, preposterous.

I can't study properly. When I come home from school, I go straight to the TV. At 9pm, I ALWAYS watch Jay Leno, and I'm too lazy to open my books afterwards. Then I go online, which eats up my time. then I don't realize that it's already 2am, and I haven't gone to bed. It doesn't matter if it's a weeknight or weekend - I got to bed after 2. Bad.

This is taking a toll on so many things.

I have come to the resolve that I need to straighten up my act. Because this is the last semester that I really need to maintain my high GPA. I can't take any make-up classes that will boost my GPA, because I can only take 2 more classes next semester. I can't take extra sociology classes, or easy-A psychology classes. this is it. The last hoorah. I better do well.

I need to get back to blogging, because I seriously need to practice my essay-writing skills. I am taking 2 writing intensive classes this semester. I am crazy.

Also, I realized why I've had the sniffles for a week now. My stress level is as high as the Tower of the Americas. How do y'all like the San Antonio reference? Haha. I miss San Antonio.

I'm hoping Teko and I get to go downtown next summer, like we've been doing for the past 2 years. Isn't he sweet? He always takes me there and we always do something new.

So anyway, I was hoping to go to San Antonio next week. Two weeks ago, my supervisor at work had asked me to take next Friday off. But yesterday, we had to change our schedules at work, so I can't take next Friday off anymore. Oh well, there goes my plan.

What else? I seriously have to go to bed, y'know.

I really miss my boyfriend. TTFN (",)

I Blame It On...

I have been contemplating about returning to the blogosphere.

One of my classmates in high school encouraged me to return. The only qualms I have about blogging is that I don't have enough time to just sit down and write anymore. I began blogging in 2003 when I felt lonely and was bored out of my mind in the middle of the night. That blog that I began has since gone into retirement. I thought I had saved my entries, many are one-liners and senseless posts of private thoughts. But I don't know if the file I saved is still where I had saved it.

I don't think a lot of people have personal blogs anymore. One reason for this is the coming of age of Twitter, Plurk, and all those Status updates on the different social networks. The ease of being able to text in what you're feeling makes blogging seem like a thing of the past. Much like writing your thoughts using a pen and paper.

I admit that I have also succumed to the modernism of society. I joined Twitter in 2007. I update my Facebook status regularly. And I have even given in to Plurk (whose idea of Karma up & down still makes no sense to me). But I still miss blogging.

I miss formulating witty entries and having blog friends who yay or nay with my entries. I miss posting pictures or fun online quizzes. I miss posing life questions where people from all walks of life can offer their own opinions. I miss sharing knowledge or passing on emails through my blog. I just realize now that my blog did seem to have it all. What the social networks offer, I was already doing in my blog.

Why did I leave?

So as I sit here at the office on a Friday afternoon, the silence takes me back to a time where all I had was a blog. I decided that right now was the perfect time to reminisce on what I had as a frequent blogger. Thank goodness for lazy Fridays and a supervisor on vacation. I figured if I didn't write now, I wouldn't get the opportunity to write again.

Here's hoping to returning to the blogging world... TTFN (",)
